Inclement Weather and School Closure
Students are reminded to dress appropriately for inclement weather. Additionally, on severely cold days, students time outdoors will be limited.
During the periods of adverse weather conditions, it may be necessary to alter the normal school schedule, or to cancel school for the day. When weather is marginal, a delayed start may be necessary to take advantage of daylight hours and/or improving road conditions.
If weather conditions dictate, it may be necessary to return students home early.
Sometimes, it may be necessary to alter bus routes for some of the rural areas.
Please listen to one of the following local radio stations regarding school closure and delay information. If a delayed start is announced, listeners should stay tuned in case a school closure update is necessary.
KORD: FM Dial 102.7
KONA: AM Dial 610, FM Dial 105.3
KNDU-TV: Channel 25
Generally during potentially unsafe conditions in the winter, school personnel are assessing the road conditions as early as 4:15 - 4:30 in the morning. We try to ensure that our bussing and transportation decisions are all made on what will be safest for our students and staff.
We appreciate your patience and understanding that there could be delays in your child's bus pick-up or delivery times when dictated by weather conditions. The Paterson drivers are all professionals who will slow their routes down as needed dependent on the current road conditions. If you have a concern about your child's buses pick-up or delivery time, please call the school. We can contact the drivers as necessary.
Sonova Road/Alderdale Area
With most road conditions, even with snow and ice, we ask that all parents in this area drop off students in the AM and pick up in the PM at one central location – the Road Department Building/Shop located in the area of Mercer Ranches/Bolthouse. The Sonova Road/Alderdale bus will not pick up or drop off students at any other locations.
On the rare occasion, that our school bus cannot safely drive up Sonova Road, take your children to the Shop at 100 Circles. This road is graveled and is safer for our buses. In the afternoon on those days, we will take your child(ren) to the Shop at l00 Circles as well.
News media and FlashAlert (www.flashalert.net ) will be used to inform you of this situation.
The decision to call a 2-hour delay is made before 5:45 AM. Once this decision has been made the district will contact the local radio and television stations to get this information out. Parents can register for FlashAlert and receive emails at the same time as news media outlets.
Several programs will not be offered on days when we have a 2-hour delay. These include:
Breakfast will not be served.
All preschool programs are canceled.
When we call a 2-hour delay please plan for the buses to arrive at the assigned pick-up locations 2 hours later than normal. For instance, if your child is regularly picked up at 7:30 AM, they will be picked up at 9:30 AM.
Generally, the decision to close school for the day is made by 7:30 AM. Once this decision is made the district will use FlashAlert to contact the local radio and television stations to get this information out. Parents can register for FlashAlert and receive emails at the same time as news media outlets.
