Karla Mendoza and Jazmin Flores from Paterson School meeting with SHAKE members.
On Wednesday, July 17, Seniors Helping All Kids’ Education or SHAKE celebrated 25 years of service.
In 1994 SHAKE began its program distributing school supplies to students in need to three schools in our area. Collection sites were at Payless shoe stores and Kennewick General Hospital. Twenty-five years later they have 56 collection sites and are distributing school supplies to 86 schools in Benton and Franklin Counties, targeting over 32,000 students. Prosser School district as well as Paterson School District receives supplies bi-annually from SHAKE.
Monica Burnett, superintendent of Paterson School went to the SHAKE open house with two of the rising eighth grade students. They were able to see the impressive organization the SHAKE volunteers have put together and pitch in and help sort and count school supplies for this up-coming fall school delivery. Burnett encourages everyone who can to make contributions of supplies to SHAKE boxes. “Their work is amazing and genuine.” She commented. “The supplies get into the hands of kids.”
